Committed to Being the Best

SUMMER
2008

Scuttlebutt

by Frank Schlieve

Our condolences to the JAMES KAUL family.  Jim’s wife Jackie passed away in Hudson, Wisconsin at the age of 86.  Jackie was always very active in club affairs when Jim was alive.  Jim has been deceased for many years.  GENE SITARZ and his wife Grace celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  We wish them many more healthy and happy years of wedded bliss.  PAUL LANGER has taken a new job in Arizona, this came as a surprise to a lot of people, and we all wish him well.  DEL BRAHM in addition to selling his company is welcoming three new grandchildren, one of whom is an adopted Korean child.  Del and Peg will be commuting to their residence in Nevada as Del has a three year contract with the purchaser.  WAYNE EDMARK escaped the wrath of the recent hurricane in Texas.  They did have some water damage but not very bad.  Wayne and Pat celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 14th.  ROY SCHULTZ had to miss our 1st meeting due to the fact he had to work at Miller Park.  This was one of the games the Cubs and Astros had to move up to Milwaukee.  JIM KINCAID sends his best wishes to all of his many friends in the local area.  The Kincaid’s are in the process of heading to Florida.  CARL SMAIDA and JERRY SCHMIDT are both suffering from Macular Degeneration and are having trouble with their vision.  It was good to see KEN SCHAEFFER at our September luncheon.  KAREN KACZMAREK won seven ribbons from her thirteen entries in the culinary arts at the Wisconsin State Fair.  Pardon me that was her daughter KIM that accomplished this, Karen won eleven ribbons from seventeen entries.  Karen won 3 first place, six second place and two third places.  Karen has said if anyone would like any of the recipes she will be glad to send them.  JERRY ALBRENT has been failing with some medical problems and asks for prayers from anyone.  Our sympathies go out to the TOM BERSCH family.  Tom passed away in Seattle, Washington.  GARY VARDER is planning an Alaskan cruise for he and his wife, they will also be joined by another couple.  Two weeks ago RICK FRANCO had open heart surgery, we wish him a speedy recovery….the bowling lanes aren’t the same without you!

EDDIE FRANKEN will be celebrating his 90th birthday on October 23rd.  His family will be hosting a celebration for him.  Ed was terminal manager in Milwaukee for Clairmont Transfer for more than twenty-five years.  Ed was a terrific ball player and a great bowler.  He had a nice family and did a wonderful job as a manager.  Our congratulations go out to Ed with a wish for many more healthy and happy years.  JOHN PETERMAN and KEN FELLER have retired from Rexnord.  John had over forty years of service and Ken will be returning as a consultant to the transportation department.  We wish them both a long and happy retirement.  Best wishes go out to ELMER ALEXY and BOB DONOVAN.  Elmer celebrated his birthday on July 28th and Bob celebrated his on August 19th.  Both of these men have reached their 90th year.  These men were liked and respected by all who came in contact with them.  Elmer spent his working days at the Northwestern Railroad and Bob handled the traffic duties at Milwaukee Solvay Coke Company.  RED SCHELLER was in town recently and sends his best wishes to everyone.  Red is still battling health problems but is managing to get around.  BOB JOHNSON sends greetings from Prairie du Sac.  We look forward to CHUCK GOLWITZER again joining us at our noon luncheons.  During the summer months Chuck has a conflict and is unable to join us.  BILL LEVINE and MARY KRIER enjoyed a nice luncheon recently.  Needless to say Mary is very distraught over the Brewers failure during the last month.  Incidentally, DEL BRAHM’S Company is being adopted by Western Overseas.

Just a few little things to remember:

The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it but what they become by it.

Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all they have.

Everyone can be great…..you only need a heart full of grace.

Life is an escalator; you can move forward or backward you cannot remain still.
